Toxicology Unit moves to Kings (May 2007)

The Toxicology unit based at Bethlem Royal Hospital has moved into new premises on the Kings site. Staff and equipment have moved into the third floor of the Bessemer wing over the last week, and service has now resumed as normal after a brief interruption. The main drug screening analyzer was winched through a third floor window by crane (see photo), with only about 1.5” clearance with the ceiling. Luckily the rain held off on Saturday and the analyzer was successfully installed. The remaining equipment was moved in on the 1st and 2nd of May, although the packing cases are still to be unpacked.
The new laboratory will allow the Toxicology Unit to provide a faster turnaround, and will benefit from integration into the Clinical Biochemistry department, including resources, staff and training.
