Purpose of the test
Description: Ham's test is used in the diagnosis of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haematuria (PNH). PNH cells are more sensitive to complement lysis because of their increased capacity to bind complement. Due to the nature of this test it is recommended that analysis for CD55 is performed instead

Sample Requirements
3 mls EDTA blood and a 10 ml clotted blood sample.
Storage and Transport
EDTA blood can be several days old if kept at 4°C. Serum will need to be separated as soon as possible to avoid any lysis. The serum should be frozen until sent.

Recent blood transfusion.
