Purpose of the test

Autoantibodies to striated muscle components have been described in myasthenia gravis. The patterns seen in indirect immunofluorescence appear to show some minor variations. This may well reflect the many antigenic targets present in striated muscle such as actin, myosin and several others. These antibodies have may also be found in association with thymoma as certain thymic cells also express antigens in common with striated muscle.
