Purpose of the test

This investigation allows the enumeration of the following lymphocyte subsets:

T cells (CD3) and their subsets (CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+)

B cells (CD19)

NK cells (CD16/56)

This investigation may be used as a screening tool for suspected lymphocyte immunodeficiency. The assay is performed using the accurate single platform technology and provides both percentage and absolute number of each subset.

Sample Requirements

EDTA whole blood 2.0 ml.

Storage and Transport

Samples must NOT be refrigerated. Please state time of venesection on the request form. Samples are suitable for analysis up to 48 hours post venesection. Samples that arrive in lab after 48 will not be analysed. Courier transport is recommended on the day of venesection.

Turnaround Time

All samples will be analysed on the day of arrival or the following day if this does not exceed the 48-hour limit.

Factors affecting results or interpretation

All tests are compromised by prolonged transit times. For this reason, date of bleed and date of postage must be provided with each request.
