Immunology and Allergy Overview / Directory
Purpose of the test
This investigation measures the concentration of C1 esterase inhibitor. It is used in the diagnosis of hereditary angioedema or acquired angioedema. 15% of patients with hereditary angioedema will have normal concentrations of C1 esterase inhibitor, due to a non-functioning protein.
Sample Requirements
0.5 ml freshly separated serum.
Storage and Transport
Serum stored at 4°C should be sent by 1st class post as soon as possible.
Turnaround Time
