Liver Pathology
Liver Pathology is part of the Institute of Liver Studies at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Institute of Liver Studies encompasses the clinical service and academic activities (undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and overlapping research) in adult and paediatric hepatology, hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation at King's. It was established in 1966 and is the largest specialist centre for the treatment of Liver disease in Europe.
The department admits patients from the UK and abroad, holding approximately 10,000 outpatient appointments and performing 200 liver transplants a year.
The Institute of Liver Studies consists of the Todd ward, part of the Dawson ward and part of the RD Lawrence ward, the Liver Transplant Theatre, the Liver Intensive Therapy Unit, the Liver Outpatients' Department, Liver Endoscopy, Paediatric hepatology and the Laboratories (Liver Pathology and academic laboratories).
Liver Pathology provides a specialist diagnostic and drug monitoring service for the clinical management of liver patients. Although Liver Pathology primarily supports Adult and Paediatric Liver services and some other departments at King's, it also provides specialist services to referring clinicians at centres outside King's (from United Kingdom and abroad).
Liver Pathology is fully CPA accredited (CPA ref no. 2321)
